Principal Investigator

Eden E. L. Tanner, DPhil

Dr. Eden Tanner completed her undergraduate degree with Honors in Advanced Science as a Chemistry major at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia, where she also pursued a biology minor. She earned her doctorate in Physical and Theoretical Chemistry at the University of Oxford under the supervision of Prof Richard Compton, with a thesis titled “Nanoelectrochemistry in Room Temperature Ionic Liquids.” Her passion for ionic liquids led her to Harvard University as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow working with Samir Mitragotri. As of August 2020, Dr. Tanner is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Ole Miss. The Tanner Lab operates at the intersection of Chemistry and Bioengineering to tackle significant biomedical challenges, particularly focusing on the application of ionic liquids in nanoparticle drug delivery.

Joined July 2023 at the University of Illinois at Chicago, I completed my PhD in Biological Sciences in 2022. My academic journey also included a focus on biochemistry, which is a key area of study at Ole Miss, as well as pursuing a biology minor during my undergraduate years at Ole Miss.

Joined May 2020 after completing her B.S. in Chemistry at Mississippi State University and Ph.D. in May 2025 at Ole Miss. Current research focuses on the antimicrobial effects and nano-bio interactions of ionic liquid materials for the development of bacterial capture devices.
